I got into a discussion a few days ago about the chances of Groce leaving in another 2-3 years. My reply was I really don't see it happening unless one of the BIG jobs opened up (Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and a few others). And in order for Groce to be asked by those types of teams, he will need to have a greater degree of success over the next few years here. Then I was asked about Ohio State? I don't see that happening either since Matta isn't close to hanging it up. Besides, does Groce REALLY want to follow Matta after the success Matta has had? Groce has the ideal fit, right here. He can stay and build a program left in poor shape by Weber. He is in fertile recruiting grounds in which he is starting to make headway in. And he can build HIS OWN legacy in Champaign.

I think you hit it right on the head, hard to imagine groce leaving unless he makes a huge move in the tourney. Even then none of the top jobs won't be open

Great post. There are some fans who have started to worry if Groce will jump ship like Self. My feeling right now is no. Mike Thomas will make sure money is not an issue. Also he grew up in Indiana I believe so grew up in B1G country. He has stated this is a perfect fit for his family. About the same distance between his parents and his wife's parents. And he brings up that "chip on his shoulder" I think that he wants to make Illinois a powerhouse and really takes pride in that. I think he likes not being Duke, KU or UK.

Grove can't coach. Last game and today's has showed that. Sure he can recruit but he can't coach at all

If his team doesn't execute that gameplan, it's THEIR fault. It was obvious Rice was not 100%. The fact that nobody seemed to want to step-up and take up the slack bothered me as well.

I think Illinois got just what they needed, a young motivated coach who can relate to his players. I would probably be more worried about assistants leaving to coach at a smaller school before Groce. Dustin Ford I think could be a coach someday down the road. When Groce builds a good program (which is happening now)and makes some runs in the tournament, competes for some B1G titles and would then start to worry. But as for now I think we got a great coach and he will be here for a while!! Go Illini

Groce doesn't seem like the kind of guy to leave after a couple of years. I would be shocked if he did.

Saying Groce can't coach is silly.... We don't have much talent.... Groce is our guy and he's young go ask Memphis fans about pastner mr. 2-14 vs ranked teams and look at them!! They're really good this year. We're gonna be alright

To add to the "groce can't coach" claim, last I checked he did more with less last year. He lost Leonard, gained no one but he stilled made the tourney. Just wait for his recruits to start becoming starters and we should see the payoff.
